Week 2
By Katheryn Christiansen:
In class we talked about Gartner’s Hype Cycles. I thought it was a very interesting concept. The hype cycle provides a graphical and conceptual presentation of the maturity emerging technologies through five phases. We also talked about developing an IT strategy that moves the organization forward towards its strategic goals. The organization should reach a point where they are not reacting to the market or latest technologies/systems, it should be a proactive approach that keeps the organizations mission and vision at the heart of the implementation.
It is also important to make sure that groups and not individuals are pulled into interviews to see what type of system would benefit the majority of groups within the organization. The implementation schedule and tactic then has to be molded to each group, because a "one size fits all" approach does not work. This goes along with the cadence of training each group or department on the new system.
Another reflection I focused on was the need for the new system not to just fit the needs of the organization in the current state, the future state needs to be considered as well. Can the system be changed in a multitude of ways to fit the future needs of the organization. How easily can this happen?
